Pray Time — Privacy notice for the closed pilot
Last updated: 04/10/2026
Pray Time is in a closed pilot: a small test with invited adults before public launch. This short notice explains how we handle your information during the pilot. A full privacy policy will replace it before Pray Time is released to the public, and we'll tell you in the app or by email when it does.
Who we are
Pray Time is run by Pray Time Pty Ltd (ACN 702 832 399, ABN 98 702 832 399), PO Box 3096, Nerang QLD 4211, Australia. Email: admin@praytime.world. This notice covers the Pray Time app. The members' website isn't open during the pilot. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, to send sign-in links and to reply when you write to us.
- A generated ID (for example PT-3K7Q), so friends can add you and people can hide you.
- Your month and year of birth, asked once at sign-up to check you're 18 or over. We use it for that check and then discard it. It is never stored and never written to our logs.
- Your country (you choose it) and your phone's time zone, so your days and streak follow your own calendar. We keep only the latest time zone.
- Your faith, only if you choose to give it and tick a separate consent box. See "Your faith" below.
- A display name, if you choose one, so friends recognise you.
- Prayers you raise: the words, any place you type in Location, the topic you choose (or up to 30 characters you type as your own topic), the picture you pick from our library, the time, the length and who can see it. If you make your own prayer run longer while it's live, we record its new end time. You can't upload pictures.
- When you join a prayer: when you tap "Join prayer", we record the prayer, your account, the time you joined and the time you finished (or the prayer ended). You can be in one prayer at a time, so joining another prayer, or starting your own, finishes the one you're in. If you leave a prayer and come back, the time away isn't counted, and we move the joining time we hold forward to match. You stay counted even if you lock your phone or close the app. Nothing else is sent from your phone while you pray: no location, no motion, no other data.
- Prayers you save, and whether you want an alert before each one starts.
- Your record: your figures (prayers, pray time, countries, time you gave to other people's prayers), other totals, and a private daily count of how many prayers you were in and for how long each day. A prayer goes on your record once you've been in it for one full minute, in whole minutes. It never records which prayer or what it was for.
- Your settings, including "Show my stats to friends" (off unless you turn it on) and your alert choices below.
- Friend alerts: for each friend, whether you've asked to be told when they go live, and when you were last told about them. On your account, whether friends can be told when you go live. That is off unless you turn it on. See "Who sees what".
- Your phone's notification address, only if you allow notifications. It is a long code Apple gives your phone so a Pray Time notification can reach it. It isn't your phone number, your Apple ID or a device serial number. We keep it with your account, the fact that it's an iPhone, and when it was first given and last refreshed. We use it only to send you reminders and friend alerts. The app asks for permission only when you turn on an alert, never at sign-up. If you say no, nothing is stored.
- When you first started a private prayer straight away without a subscription (one date and time), to run its free week. Nothing is sold during the pilot.
- Which live prayers the app showed you last time (a short list), so the next screen can show you different ones first. We use it for that screen only and don't store it.
- Reports and messages: the note you write when you report a prayer, a copy of the reported prayer, and emails you send us.
- Technical data: our hosting provider's request logs may show your IP address. We also keep a scrambled, one-way code made from your IP address and the action you took, to stop abuse.
We don't ask for your real name, photo, ID document, contacts or phone number, and we don't use your phone's location.
Praying as a guest. If you pray without an account, you choose a topic and pray silently; you can't type anything. It happens on your phone only and nothing about it is sent to us, and no ID is created. Your phone shows that one prayer's stats until you pray again or leave, then clears them. The app keeps one setting on your phone, the "yes" from the "I'm 18 or over" tick, so you aren't asked every time.
Your faith is sensitive information
Religious belief is sensitive information under Australian privacy law. Giving your faith is optional; the default is "Prefer not to say". We store it only if you tick the separate consent box. It is used only to count how many faiths are represented in a prayer. No other user can see your faith, and it is never shown beside you or your prayers. You can remove it at any time in Yours → Your account → Faith.
A prayer's own words may reveal things about you or others. If you make a prayer public, everyone signed in to Pray Time can read it until it ends.
Who sees what
- Strangers see your public prayers, with their topic and picture, and where they come from: your country ("From Australia"), or the place you typed on that prayer ("From Australia, Gold Coast"). They don't see your name, ID or email. A topic you type yourself is shown on the prayer like its words. A town says more about where you are than a country does, so only type one if you want people to see it.
- Friends you have both added see your display name and your ID, including on prayers you raise in public or for friends, while those prayers run. They see four of your figures (prayers, pray time, countries, time you gave to others) only if you switch on "Show my stats to friends". Your streak, "Your year", time received and daily count are never shown to anyone else.
- Friend alerts. You can let friends be told when you start a public or friend-group prayer. It is off unless you turn it on, and the app asks you once. A friend is told only if you have both added each other and they have asked to be told about you. The notification says "A friend is praying now" and how long the prayer runs. It never shows your name, the words, the topic or the picture, and it is never sent for a private prayer. Your friend can then open the app and see that the prayer is yours. A friend is told about you at most once an hour. Being told each time lets a friend see when and how often you pray, which can say something about your faith or how you are, so only turn it on if you're comfortable with that. You're never told whether a friend has asked to be told about you.
- The live numbers on a prayer (how many are in it, how many came, from how many countries and faiths, and the total time given) are counts only, never names. In a prayer with very few people, the numbers can say more than they seem.
- The order of live prayers is a mix that changes each visit. Prayers with more people in them are somewhat more likely to appear higher, and quiet ones are mixed in. Your faith, your country and your past praying play no part in it.
- The saved count ("You and 2 others saved this") is shown only to the person who raised the prayer.
- Your ID isn't displayed to strangers, but it travels with your public prayers in the data their app receives, so they can hide you. If someone hides everything from you, their own list shows your ID.
- We can link a prayer to the account that raised it. No person reads prayers as part of ordinary moderation; the checks are automatic. A person reads a prayer only if it is reported, and may pass a preserved copy to police if it concerns serious harm or unlawful material.
Notifications, and how to turn them off
Pray Time sends two kinds of notification, and only if you've allowed notifications on your phone:
- A reminder before a prayer you saved. It says only "Pray Time" and "Starts at" the time. No prayer, no name, no reason.
- A friend alert, described above. It says only "Pray Time" and "A friend is praying now. Join for the next 5 minutes." (or however long the prayer runs).
To turn them off:
- Reminders: switch off the alert on a saved prayer, or change "Remind me before a saved prayer starts" in Yours.
- Alerts about a friend: switch off that friend's alert, in Yours under Friends.
- Alerts about you: switch off "Friends can be told when I go live", in Yours under Friends. Then nobody is told.
- Everything: turn off notifications for Pray Time in your iPhone's Settings, or sign out. When you sign out, we delete your phone's notification address.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your information. There is no advertising, and the app has no analytics or crash-reporting software. We don't track you across other apps or websites. We share information only with:
- Railway, which runs Pray Time and stores its database and backups in Singapore.
- Resend, which sends our sign-in emails from Tokyo, Japan (it runs on Amazon Web Services).
- Apple, which delivers notifications to your iPhone if you've allowed them. We send Apple your phone's notification address and the words of the notification, as set out above. No other company handles them.
- Police, courts and regulators, only where the law requires or allows it.
Storage outside Australia
Your information is stored in Singapore and sign-in emails are sent from Japan. Railway and Resend are United States companies, so their staff or systems in the United States may also be able to access it. Apple, which delivers notifications, is also a United States company. We use only providers that are required to protect your information to at least the standard in this notice, and to use it only to provide their service to us.
How long we keep things
- Prayers are deleted when they end, with any place typed on them, their topic and the picture chosen. If the person who raised a prayer makes it run longer, it is deleted at the later end. The record of who was in a prayer (joining and finish times) is deleted with the prayer, after your figures are updated.
- Your daily count: each day is deleted after about 400 days.
- Your account, figures, settings, alert choices and faith are kept until you remove them or delete your account.
- Your phone's notification address is deleted when you sign out on that phone, sign out everywhere or delete your account, when Apple tells us the phone no longer has the app, or when the app hasn't been opened signed in for 90 days. We keep at most the five newest for an account.
- A record of each reminder or friend alert is made when it is queued and deleted when the prayer ends, or sooner if the prayer or your account is deleted. It holds your account, which kind of notification it is, the prayer's number, when it is due, when it was sent, and the prayer's length (for a friend alert) or start time (for a reminder). It doesn't hold who the friend was, or any of the prayer's words. When you were last told about a friend is kept with that friendship until it ends or either account is deleted. Apple is told to drop a friend alert once the prayer's time is up, and a reminder ten minutes after the prayer starts.
- Sign-in links work once, for 15 minutes. Unused links are deleted a day after they expire.
- Sign-in sessions last up to 90 days in the app, or until you sign out.
- A reported prayer's copy and the report note are kept for 90 days, or longer if the law or an investigation requires it.
- Logs are kept for up to 30 days. The one-way abuse code is kept for up to 2 days.
- Our regular backups are kept for up to 27 days, so something you delete can remain in a backup for up to 27 days before it's gone.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Yours → Your account → Delete. It happens straight away and signs you out everywhere. It deletes your email, ID, name, country, time zone, faith, friends, figures, running totals, daily count, countries list, sessions, settings, alert choices and your phone's notification address. Copies in our backups are gone within 27 days. Worldwide totals you added to stay, but they aren't linked to you. If you can't get into the app, email admin@praytime.world.
Adults only
Pray Time is for people 18 and over, with an account or as a guest. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it and delete its data.
Your rights and complaints
You can ask to see or correct the information we hold about you, or to delete it. Most of it you can change yourself in Yours → Your account. You can also use Yours → Help → "My data or privacy", or email admin@praytime.world. We'll reply to privacy requests within 30 days.
If you have a complaint about how we've handled your information, please tell us first at admin@praytime.world or PO Box 3096, Nerang QLD 4211. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: https://www.oaic.gov.au/privacy/privacy-complaints or 1300 363 992.
